Hyperhidrosis (excess sweating)

Hyperhidrosis, what is it?

Summer equals heat in New Zealand – which is just what Hyperhidrosis is designed for. Kiwi summers can sometimes be too much for our bodies and clothes to handle and sometimes we become sweaty messes! That’s where hyperhidrosis treatments can help as it stops excessive sweating so you are more comfortable in the summer.

What Causes Excess Sweating?

Sweating is natural, it’s our bodies way of cooling us down and removing toxins, with hyperhidrosis through our body’s cooling function tends to be hyperactive and thus produces too much sweat! Your sympathetic nervous system is responsible for receiving messages, the messages are continually sent to cool the body down even when it isn’t hot. The glands that receive the messages are typically on the hands, feet and armpits!
Research has demonstrated that treating excessive sweating of the armpits, hands, feet, head, and face on a botulinum toxin A is safe and effective. When used to treat underarm excessive sweating, Botox has been shown to result in an 82-87% decrease in sweating with results being noticeable approx 2-4 days post-treatment and full results at 10-12 days post-treatment. The Botox effect (dryness) normally lasts 4 to 12 months. Statistics from published research studies have shown that repeated treatment with Botox is safe and effective for hyperhidrosis. The results also consistently show that Botox treatments provide long-lasting improvements in clients excessive sweating symptoms, daily functioning, and quality of life. This treatment has also been scientifically proven to improve on-the-job productivity, wow! Whilst sweating is an essential body function for temperature-control, localized body areas house only a small percentage of the body’s sweat glands , for example, the underarms, contain less than 2% of the body’s sweat glands.) The reduction of these sweat glands’ functioning, therefore, has little to do with body thermoregulation.

How do we treat it?

We can treat Hyperhidrosis with Botox under the arm. By injecting Botox we reduce the sweat glands from working in excess which reduces sweat! Like most Botox treatments we inject directly into the area needed and it takes 10-12 days until the Botox fully kicks in. The majority of people who receive Botox for Hyperhidrosis already notice a difference within the 2 weeks! It takes about 50 units of Botox per armpit to treat hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating.

For the hair it’s very similar we just inject along the hairline or which then prevent sweat from ruining your hair!

Disclosure Note: Botox is not a permanent cure to hyperhidrosis.
