Considering a vampire facial?

Here’s the top five natural skin rejuvenation uses for PRP!

Many skincare enthusiasts reach out to us here at Luxe Appearance because they are very eager to ask about something called the vampire facial that they have seen used by multiple celebrities and beauty influencers with stunning results. Despite the dramatic name, the vampire facial is a very natural, gentle beauty treatment that intensely nourishes the skin. The clinical name for the vampire facial is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. The reason why PRP is associated with “vampires” is because it involves injecting a centrifuged sample of your own blood into the skin. During a vampire facial, a micro needling technique is used to gently prick and stimulate your skin to allow your treated blood to stimulate collagen and elastin production. We find that PRP offers several benefits for treating common skin problems and kicking the skin’s natural ability to flourish into high gear. Next, we can explore five specific areas where PRP really shines.

1. Texture and tone of skin

PRP does an amazing job of smoothing the skin because it helps your cells turn over fresh “baby skin.” Many people who typically rely on chemical products and ointments to keep their skin revitalized are shocked by just how different their skin feels when they are relying on vitalization from the inside instead of topical fixes.

2. Anti-ageing benefits

As you may know, a reduction in collagen production is what often causes the signs of ageing to creep up on our skin. Collagen is what gives our skin a young, hydrated, and fresh look. PRP primes our cells to ramp up collagen production naturally. That means that our cells are very much acting as they did 10, 15 or 20 years ago!

3. Hair loss

The growth factors delivered by PRP are behind why this is such an encouraging treatment option for people experiencing hair loss. The PRP that is delivered to the scalp via a micro needling procedure creates a stimulating effect right at the hair follicles. As a result, many patients find that hair begins to grow back fuller and healthier. PRP may be an effective treatment for hair loss and volume restoration for men and women.

4. Reduced pore size

PRP is shown to be an effective treatment option for the frustrating problem of enlarged pores. Genetic factors, sun exposure and ageing can cause pores to “stretch” over the years. Unfortunately, enlarged pores often fill up with sebum and oils that create noticeable “clog spots” that are very difficult to clear out. PRP micro needling treatments help to reduce the appearance of stretched pores. The boost in collagen production that occurs following PRP treatments increases elasticity in a way that narrows pores. In addition to smaller pores, patients enjoy the benefits of overall increased skin elasticity and vibrancy!

5. Scarring

PRP is increasingly being used to address scarring. PRP seems to be effective at treating acne scars and “rolling” scars. Many patients prefer PRP to other treatments for acne scarring because it produces faster results with what is generally a better response.

PRP involves several steps. The beauty of this treatment is that a medical professional is essentially treating you with your own DNA to activate and supercharge your skin. This is beneficial for two reasons. The first is that PRP is simply safer than a method that might involve injecting artificial or foreign therapies into your skin. The second is that patients have almost no chance of “rejecting” or reacting to the plasma that is injected because it is their own plasma.

The process of having a PRP injection begins with the patient having a sample of blood extracted. Next, this blood sample is centrifuged to concentrate the platelets. Lastly, the concentrated, potent platelet solution is injected at the target site and massaged into your skin through a micro needling process. The most common treatment areas for the vampire facial are the face, neck, and décolletage. PRP is especially popular among people looking to revitalize the under-eye area. However, PRP offers several benefits for several areas throughout the body.

It is important to understand why platelets are like liquid gold for the skin before getting into the process of a PRP treatment. PRP is a powerful anti-ageing tool because it releases growth factors directly to the treatment site that foster intense rejuvenation. Once stems cells kick into gear following injection, collagen, and elastin production ramp up to produce thicker, smoother skin that is noticeably radiant and supple. Many patients feel that PRP is like a switch that actives their skin’s ability to turn over and glow the way it did in their youth.

Each PRP session typically takes 45 minutes to an hour. Your specific goals and target sites will be discussed in a consultation prior to your vampire facial. Most people see results within four to six weeks following a PRP procedure. However, the results often build and increase for a full three months following each vampire facial. We find that staggering three to six treatments over the course six months creates the ultimate skin-rejuvenating response for noticeable, long-lasting results. It is often recommended that patient’s give their results a boost “on the way up” with a repeat session that is scheduled at the six-week mark.

PRP is typically considered a “facial treatment” because it is so effective for improving tightness and texture. It is especially popular for patients looking to smooth and tone the highly visible areas covering the face, neck, and décolletage. However, what we call the vampire facial is not limited to the face at all! PRP treatments are commonly used by people looking to improve skin laxity and reduce the appearance of stretch marks on the abdomen or thighs.
